Twitter Bans Personal Account Of US Politician Marjorie Taylor Greene

US congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has seen her personal Twitter account banned on the platform.

The move comes in the wake of Twitter’s new ‘strike system’ which aims to identify and stop COVID-19 and vaccine misinformation. Earlier in 2020, Greene reportedly gained her fourth strike and was suspended for a week after claiming that vaccines were failing.

Greene has become known for her controversial views. Among her most provocative statements were doubting the legitimacy of the COVID-19 vaccines, questioning whether the 9/11 attacks were a hoax, and refusing to apologise after claiming school shootings were staged and harassing a survivor of the 2019 attack on Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

Now, in a statement posted to Telegram and shared by Reuters, Greene has labelled Twitter “an enemy to America”.

“Social media platforms can’t stop the truth from being spread far and wide. Big tech can’t stop the truth. Communist Democrats can’t stop the truth. I stand with the truth and the people. We will overcome.”

While her personal account has been permanently suspended, her official congressional account remains active.
