Taron Egerton fainted during the debut performance of his new play Cock at the Ambassadors Theatre in London.

The 32-year-old Kingsman and Rocketman actor reportedly collapsed mid-way through the production, causing the curtains to be drawn and a doctor to be called from the audience.

Director Marianne Elliott later took to the stage to reassure the audience and announce that understudy Joel Harper-Jackson would fill in for Egerton in the final act of the play.

Taking to Instagram on Sunday, Egerton told fans that he was “completely fine” despite a “sore neck and bruised ego”. He then promised to be back “with a vengeance tomorrow night”.

The show, created by Mike Bartlett, first premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in 2009. It follows the story of a gay man named John (played by Jonathan Bailey), who begins to question his sexuality after falling in love with a woman named W (Jade Anouka). Edgerton stars as John’s partner M and is also joined by Phil Daniels as F.

Performances of Cock are due to continue this evening, with the official opening scheduled for March 15.
