Novak Djokovic says he is willing to sacrifice trophies if told to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Earlier this year, Djokovic was deported from Australia after Immigration Minister Alex Hawk cancelled his visa.

The tennis star was set to defend his title at the Australian Open, but his unvaccinated status meant that Hawk did not want his entry to encourage anti-vaxxers. You can read more about this here.

Talking to the BBC, Djokovic is refusing to waiver in his stance over vaccinations, even if it means missing out on trophies.

“Yes, that is the price I’m willing to pay,” he said. “Because the principles of decision making on my body are more important than any title or anything else. I’m trying to be in tune with my body as I possibly can.”

Despite not wanting it, the 34-year-old insists he is not against the vaccine.

“I was never against vaccination,” he said. “but I’ve always supported the freedom to choose what you put in your body.”

It looks like the French Open is the next major tournament Djokovic could miss out on.
