Johnny Depp wants to prove that his ex-wife, Amber Heard, did not donate $7 million to the ACLU as was agreed in their divorce settlement.

The move comes as Depp tries to strengthen his position against Heard in a $50 million defamation lawsuit.  The lawsuit is in response to an article written by the Aquaman actress in the Washington Post. In the article, Heard talked about being a victim of domestic violence.

Heard has filed a countersuit for $100 million.

Last year a UK court ruled that The Sun did not defame Depp with its “wife-beater” headline. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor believes the judge’s ruling was motivated by Heard’s $7 million pledge to charity.

If Johnny and his legal team can prove that Amber has not donated the $7 million to the ACLU, it would support claims against her character in the new court case.

The ACLU is a not-for-profit organisation. Up until now the organisation has refused to provide Johnny Depp’s legal team with proof of Heard’s donation. By suing them, Depp hopes the courts will force them to comply.

Allegedly, Depp believes that Elon MuskHeard’s boyfriend at the time – may have paid all or most of the donation, and that Heard herself has paid only a fraction of the promised sum.

Depp and Heard divorced in 2017.
