Glass Animals have officially become the first UK band to top Spotify’s global singles chart.

Their single Heat Waves, which featured on their third studio album Dreamland, has enjoyed a recent surge in popularity since its release in June of 2020.

Though it has endured something of a slow burn, the song finally entered the UK’s Top 5 in October 2021 before taking a record-breaking 42 weeks to reach the number three spot in the US charts.

Now streamed over 1.1 billion times on Spotify, with approximately 4.26 million new streams recorded per day, Heat Waves has topped Spotify’s Global Top 50, making Glass Animals the first British band to claim the number one spot.

Written by songwriter Dave Bayley, Heat Waves is also the first solo written song to top the Spotify charts since Happy by Pharrell in 2014.
