F1 Team Haas Terminates Contract With Russian Driver Nikita Mazepin

Russian driver Nikita Mazepin has had his contract with F1 team Haas terminated amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. 

Mazepin spent his inaugural F1 season racing for Haas and was preparing for the upcoming second one.

Haas released a statement on social media announcing the termination of his contract – along with their title sponsor.

Haas F1 Team gas elected to terminate, with immediate effect, the title partnership of Uralkali and the driver contract of Nikita Mazepin,” it read.

“As with the rest of the Formula 1 community, the team is shocked and saddened by the invasion of Ukraine and wishes for a swift and peaceful end to the conflict.”

Mazepin took to Twitter to release his own statement, expressing his ‘disappointment’ in the decision taken by Haas.

“While I understand the difficulties, the ruling from FIA plus my ongoing willingness to accept the conditions proposed in order to continue were completely ignored and no process was followed in this unilateral step,” he wrote.

“I have treasured my time in F1 and genuinely hope we can all be together again in better times.”

The 2022 season starts on March 20.
