Disney CEO Defends Movie Releases On Streaming Service

Following the Scarlett Johnasson lawsuit (read more here), Disney CEO, Bob Chapek has defended the studios day-and-date release model during these uncertain times of the pandemic.

During the earnings call for their Q3 earnings, Chapek says that “We value flexibility in being able to make last-minute calls,” and hasn’t ruled out the potential of continuing the release structure with “nothing in stone” for future releases, Deadline reports.

Marvel’s latest film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, will not follow the same release as Black Widow only having a theatrical release. However the film will land on the Disney Plus, 45 days after theatrical with the Disney CEO saying that it is, “an interesting experiment”
