Demi Lovato Comes Out As Non-Binary
Demi Lovato took to Instagram to announce in a video message that they now identify as non-binary and will be changing pronouns to they/them.
The announcement came as part of the first episode of Lovato’s new weekly podcast series, 4D. The global star hopes to share their thoughts, experiences, and have “conversations that transcend the typical discourse.”
The star shares in their video that “over the past year and a half, I’ve been doing some healing and self-reflective work, and through this work I’ve had the revelation that I identify with non-binary. With that said, I’ll be officially changing my pronouns to they/them.”
In the caption, Demi reflects on their life in the public eye: “Ive spent the majority of my life growing in front of all of you… you’ve seen the good, the bad, and everything in between.”
Lovato has been known to be vulnerable with her fans by disclosing their past experiences with drug use, rehab, their sexual identity, and an eating disorder – all shared in the 2017 Youtube documentary Lovato: Simply Complicated.

They express that they are doing this for those who “haven’t been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones.”
