Daniil Medvedev Loses Number One Ranking After One Week

Daniil Medvedev’s world number one ranking lasted just a week, after a third round exit at the Indian Wells means that they are no longer considered the world’s best.
The Russian had taken over Novak Djokovic after the Serbian was knocked out of the Dubai Open.
In fact, even after not participating at the Indian Wells due to his vaccination status, it is Djokovic who will regain the top spot.
Medvedev was beaten by France’s Gael Monfils 4-6 6-3 6-1.
The 26-year-old became the first tennis number one outside of Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray since 2004.
While Medvedev has age on his side to regain the top spot, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine could complicate the situation.
Russian athletes across multiple sports have been prevented from competing as a result of the ongoing conflict.
