Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Malik McDowell was arrested on Monday (January 17) after a bizarre naked assault on an officer.

According to the South Flordia Sun-Sentinel (via ESPN), McDowell was arrested after police were called to Deerfield Beach, Flordia.

The 25-year-old was allegedly discovered walking naked in proximity to a children’s learning centre. After police attempted to approach, McDowell reportedly charged at officers at “full speed with a closed fist” and injured one deputy.

Though McDowell fled the scene he was eventually tasered and apprehended. He was charged with aggravated battery on an officer, resisting arrest and exposing a sex organ in public.

Originally selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft, McDowell spent his first season on the injury list after suffering a vehicular accident. After multiple incidents with the law, including DUIs and charges for assault, McDowell was released from his contract with the Seahawks.

He was subsequently picked up by the Browns in 2021 and gave a standout performance, starting 14 out of 15 games. Now, in a statement shared with Jake Trotter for ESPN, the team stated that it was investigating the incident.
